The traditional art of relaxation and movement to reset our mind body and soul has become an effective method for improving young children’s early learning as careers and educators look for efficient ways to develop developing minds. Beyond its health benefits, being able to reset the mind body and soul has a set of advantages that support children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Relaxation and Movement is for Young Children’s

When included in the early childhood education curriculum this has many benefits beyond just its physical poses. Let’s understand the important benefits that we can gain from enjoying relaxing and moving more frequently!

At Leap Start we understand the benefits this can provide for our children. As part of our Little Flexers Specialist Program children can chose to participate in calming relaxation sessions with elements of Yoga, Pilates, and meditation. Our children learn to self-regulate, manage their emotions, and recognise their need for rest and quite moments.

VALUABLE ways how we can ENHANCE your children’s early learning experiences through relaxation and movement.

1. Physical Development: The postures, stretches, and movements practised increases strength, flexibility, and balance in the body. Children who participate in these activities benefit from improved body awareness and coordination, which will contribute to their overall physical well-being. Physical positions develop discipline and attention in the body and help develop healthy habits early in life.

2. Improving Concentration and Focus: Relaxing movement and regulated breathing practice may significantly improve a child’s ability to focus. Children have a better capacity for sustained focus as they learn to pay attention to their breath and body, a crucial skill in any learning process. This increased attention may be transferred to academic settings, where children can interact successfully.

3. Emotional Regulation: Relaxation and movement teaches us the value of emotional awareness and self-regulation. Children can learn to control tension, anxiety, and discomfort through practises like deep breathing and meditation. These emotional regulation abilities not only contribute to a healthy learning environment but also help children handle any problems they may face both in and out of the classroom.

4. Social Skills and Collaboration: Many practises include group activities and partner postures, which create a sense of community and collaboration. Children learn to work together, communicate effectively, and respect each other’s personal space. These social skills are essential for successful cooperation in group learning settings. Additionally, the non-competitive ethics of relaxation and movement creates an inviting and supportive environment, supporting healthy social and emotional growth.

5. Cognitive Benefits: Apart from physical movements, it involves mental exercises that enhance cognitive capabilities. Mindfulness practises can increase memory, problem-solving skills, and overall cognitive flexibility. These advantages contribute to a child’s preparation for learning, allowing them to grasp and remember knowledge more efficiently.

6. Improved Sleep Patterns: Proper sleep is important for the appropriate development of children’s minds. Relaxation and movement practises, such as guided meditation and gentle movements, can help better sleep patterns. This may improve sleep quality.
in children, resulting in improved cognitive performance and general well-being.

Incorporating relaxation and movement to reset the mind, body and soul of young children goes beyond physical activity and fosters many ways of development. Children who engage in mindful practises not only create a foundation of physical health, but also create essential skills for emotional control, social engagement, and cognitive growth.

By incorporating this into early learning environments, we are providing young children with tools that will serve them successfully throughout their educational journey and beyond. When the power of play is combined with the ancient knowledge of relaxation and movement it becomes a tremendous advantage for developing young minds.
