Little Lingo Learners – Mandarin & Auslan Language
Ni hao everyone!
Our Little Lingo Learners have been increasingly confident in their learning journey for both Mandarin & Auslan language. Research shows that learning a second language boosts problem-solving, critical thinking, and listening skills, in addition to improving memory, concentration, and mental flexibility. This can be seen from the children’s learning as they displayed excellent memory retention from the new words and signs they have learned.
We have had some interesting discussions in the past where children asked for the purpose of AUSLAN. We talked about various ways and languages people use to interact and communicate with each other. Meaningful discussions like this have helped to promote the children’s developing awareness in diversity.
The children in the Nursery hub were very interested in animals and when we went to the zoo together with the Kindy children, we learned about the names for the animals in Mandarin & AUSLAN languages. The children in the Toddler hub have been focusing on nutrition and healthy eating. They have learned to name several fruits from The Very Hungry Caterpillar and sign simple emotions. The children in the Huxley and Kindy room have been learning in forms of mini-games, interactive activities, and storytelling which stimulate and accelerate their learning progress. Most importantly, all the children have learned to communicate their needs in different languages through these interactions and displayed respect to everyone around them.
